Cleveland Clinic Internship: POEM Procedure

Drawings I created during my summer internship at the Cleveland Clinic Center for Medical Art & Photography. Due to time constraints this project was not finished during my time at the internship. The goal of this project was to create surgical illustrations of the POEM procedure ( Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy for Treatment of Achalasia ). I have the final approved sketches below and an old version of the project that was being worked on in photoshop. ( This version was decided to be changed so I had to stop and redraw the procedure for the opposite side. )

Basically the procedure takes out a layer of muscle in your esophagus ( where it meets your stomach ) to help treat Achalasia. ( A disorder that causes trouble swallowing. )
