About the Artist
Catherine Stanley is currently working as a medical illustrator at the University of Michigan. Combining a love for science and skill with art, she explores new ways of presenting scientific information through a variety of media. Each project that she works on requires just as many hours of research as it does actually creating the art. Catherine enjoys this challenge of balancing scientific accuracy, graphic design, and aesthetic qualities when making art. It is important to Catherine that she be able to use her art to help others by furthering education in scientific and medical topics. Whether it's drawing from a cadaver or observing organisms under a microscope, Catherine enjoys learning more about the world around her and being able to draw these fascinating subjects.
Catherine had a summer internship at the Cleveland Clinic's Department of Medical Illustration where she worked with doctors to create graphics for publications. She has also worked on various projects with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Cleveland Botanical Garden, Great Lakes Science Center, and University Hospitals. As a graduating senior Catherine was recognized by the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio for her portfolio by receiving the Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts.
